Project-Based Learning (PBL) as a Promising Challenge for Prospective Mathematics Teachers in Math in Elementary School Education.

Abstract

Contemporary research studies teach that there is practical innovative learning, which is active and involving, called project-based learning (PBL). PBL provides a solution for the improvement of the performances in mathematics, for the motivation of the pupils, and for the inspiration of interest, curiosity, and enjoyment from this field of knowledge. Five years ago, I initiated a course in the college where I teach, the Gordon Academic College in Haifa, called “Development of Initiatives and Projects in Mathematics”. The objective of this course is to train students for teaching mathematics using projects. In the second year I taught the course, the research study was performed, and its results indicate the great value inherent in this method of active and involving teaching. From my experience as a teacher in the past and from the reports of my students in the Gordon Academic College for Education in the PBL course, in such teaching a solution is provided for the different populations in the class. The pupils are engaged in learning in practical and realistic projects that are relevant to their lives. They are more active and autonomous, work cooperatively, and develop patterns of behavior of independence in learning, self-orientation, and self-regulation. Współczesne badania naukowe dowodzą, że istnieje praktyczna innowacyjna nauka, która jest aktywna i angażująca, zwana uczeniem się opartym na projektach (PBL). PBL dostarcza rozwiązania, które poprawiają wyniki w matematyce, motywują uczniów oraz wzbudzają zainteresowanie, ciekawość i radość z tej dziedziny wiedzy. Pięć lat temu zainicjowałem w szkole wyższej Gordon Academic College w Hajfie kurs o nazwie „Rozwój inicjatyw i projektów w matematyce”. Celem tego kursu jest przygotowanie studentów do nauczania matematyki za pomocą projektów. Na drugim roku, na którym prowadziłem przedmiot, przeprowadzono badanie, a jego wyniki wskazują na wielką wartość, jaką daje ta metoda aktywnego i angażującego nauczania. Z mojego doświadczenia jako nauczyciela w przeszłości oraz z relacji moich studentów w Gordon Academic College for Education na kursie PBL, w takim nauczaniu zapewnia się rozwiązanie dla różnych populacji w klasie. Uczniowie uczą się w praktycznych i realistycznych projektach, które są istotne dla ich życia. Są bardziej aktywni i autonomiczni, pracują wspólnie i rozwijają wzorce zachowań niezależności w uczeniu się, samoregulacji i samoregulacji.
