Artur Jocz – STANISŁAW PRZYBYSZEWSKI'S LITERARY ATTEMPTS OF EXPRESSING THE PHENOMENON OF THE SACRED The starting point in these remarks is the suggestion by Stanisław Przybyszewski (1868-1927), that the nature of Man is to be understood only in the perspective of transcendent reality, through relating it to the sphere of the sacred. The reality of its existence is being pointed out by all grand religious and philosophical traditions recalled by the author. However, he himself was convinced that the best cognition of the transcendent reality is guaranteed by art and/or literature. He had set therefore to the works created by himself an extremely maximalistic goal. It was to some extent cha-racteristic for the art at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, in which people tried to redefine the essence of the sacred sphere and its relation to Man.
