Abstract

In a panel discussion on the place of philosophy in Polish culture I had pointed out two issues. First one is related to depreciation of the value of achievements of a large part of Polish philosophers and extremely high evaluation of achievements of Western philosophers. The other one is however related to the arrogating philosophers a leading role in the cultural transformations. I do claim that in some periods and various areas of Polish culture philosophers had a certain influence on what had occurred in it, but they did not (or at least not only them) had decided on its character and directions of changes taking place in it.
