Abstract

The paper presents two techniques for measuring the availability of cognitive schemes, ie emotional (or modified) Stroop task and lexical decision test. These methods are widely used as a complement to other research methods, in particular seem to be useful in studying the psychological processes that may not be available to awareness or are heavily distorted by the need for social approval or self-approval. The basic rules of their use are provided, as well as numerous examples of studies using them, particularly in the area of psychopathology, social psychology and individual differences.
