Abstract

Remigiusz T. Ciesielski – THE BALL IN THE TEMPLE: SACRALIZATIONS OF THE PROFANE AND PROFANIZATIONS OF THE SACRED The main issue tackled by this article is an attempt to give an answer to the question on the status of dance elements in modern practices of Catholic liturgy. The use of dance in the Catholic ritual was since the 2nd Vatican Council banned and perceived clearly as an expression of the profane. From the second half of the 20th century attempts had been made to apply dance figures in selected parts of Catholic rituals or even meanings from dance itself have been excavated and put for example into recollection practices or Catholic spiritual exercises. How is dance being situated in contemporary liturgical documents? How in the field of discussion on the post-council liturgical transgressions practices are situated, which give an theatric touch to the liturgical action, and are they legally sanctio-ned anyway? These are the questions I try to give answer to in my considerations. I recall here the annual liturgical gathering on the Lednica Fields and the discussion around the liturgical expression.
