Abstract

Presidency as the office does not have its long tradition in Russia. Initiaily, duties of the head of state were included among the executive power and were explicitly limited to represantation. The first general election of 1991 has changed the s of 1991 has changed the situation radically. Boris yeltsin has obtained considerably greater powers at his disposal, The president's position in the political system has been additionally reinforced by the new consitution passed in 1993. The president's office in Russian contemporary goverment is the result of its legal designation in the political system as well as Boris Yeltsin's own political individuality.
