Negotiating Ethnic Descriptions in English as a Lingua Franca

Abstract

The main aim of the paper is to show: first, how the descriptions of the ethnic other are realized in interactions in English as a lingua franca and next, how they influence the course of an interaction and the mutual relationship of interaction participants. Conversation analysis framework is used to observe social categorization process in data fragments illustrating the problem.
