Abstract

The paper is a contribution to the discussion on the possibilities of and obstacles (barriers) to supporting social capital through education. The author takes up a neuro-evolutional interpretation and points out that territorialism is a characteristic of the deep brain which has been inherited by humankind from reptiles and primitive mammals. People whose behaviour is dominated by this deep brain concentrate on breaking social bonds with others. Systematic pro-social education in early childhood may reduce the domination of this relic residing in the human brain.
