Abstract
The paper discusses the concepts of creativity and innovation and analyses the theoretical conditions for their development as well as the existing conditions for creativity and innovation in contemporary Poland. As it happens, the prevailing conditions currently observed in Poland are those that discourage rather than encourage creativity in the broad sense. The negative conditions comprise certain social factors, including educational, the dominance of mass culture, a relatively shallow economy that is neither interested in animating nor absorbing creativity, and the absence of a proper policy of the state which is not interested in providing adequate conditions that would encourage creativity and propagate its products.
