Abstract

The study examines which factors of social as well as school environment have the most significant impact on teenagers’ school achievements. It also surveys whether school is capable of reducing the links between contrary social background and school achievements. The study emphasises the necessity for a new approach in the understanding of school achievement, because changing societal and pedagogical paradigms have radically redefined perception of this term. Finally, it highlights the role school plays in supporting or assisting socially disadvantaged students.
