An attempt of full and precise definition of handicraft irrespective of place and time encounter difficulties not to surmount. To define the idea handicraft contemporary theoreticians point to three essential characteristics: great differentiation of activities, close relation between the producer and products and decentralization of localization. The law criterions define handicraft as a separate national economy, but they differ in other countries and exclude comparison. Elasticity and effectiveness of activities, as well as ability of single, specialistic and individualized production assign handicraft range of activity which lies hehind interest of industry. Handicraft however has profitable economic and organizational conditions to perform effective services. Those characteristics create prosperous prospects for development because coexistence of different size enterprises various and lines of production in modern economy is indispensable. Place and role of handicraft in national economy depend to a great extent on ideologic and political maturity and civis attitude of the handrierafts men. Individual property of production means should be featured as social function and be used according to the social interest. The state estimates the role of handicraft in efficient performance of economy and supporting its development in the limits defined by law and by economic policy proceeds to a fuller integration with the whole national economy for a better fulfilment of the pepole's needs.
