Abstract

Streszczenie. Celem artykułu jest krytyczna analiza książki "Secret Agents and the Memory of Everyday Collaboration in Communist Eastern Europe", wydanej pod redakcją Pétera Apora, Sándora Horvátha i Jamesa Marka. W jego pierwszej części przedstawiono ujęcia sprawiedliwości tranzycyjnej, w pojmowanej zarówno jako pewien zbiór praktyk społecznych implementowany podczas przejścia z systemów niedemokratycznych do demokratycznych, mających na celu ukaranie winnych łamania prawa oraz upamiętnienie ofiar niesprawiedliwości, jak i interdyscyplinarne badanie przebiegu i rezultatów prowadzonej polityki. W drugiej części artykułu ukazano społeczno-polityczne warunki powstawania instytucji pamięci w Europie Wschodniej, a w ostatniej – przeanalizowano istniejące ujęcia badania komunistycznej przeszłości oraz wybrane studia przypadków.

Around the Politics of Memory and Justice of Transitional Period in the East European Countries The purpose of this study is to review the book "Secret Agents and the Memory of Everyday Collaboration in Communist Eastern Europe", edited by Péter Apor, Sándor Horváth, and James Mark. In the fi rst part of the paper, the various approaches to transitional justice are analysed. The transitional justice is perceived as a set social practice applied during the transition from non-democratic to democratic system tending to punish people who were responsible for breaking the law and memorise the victims of injustice. Also, this notion means interdisciplinary research on the course, variants and results of the implemented policy of reconciliation. In the second part of the paper, the political circumstances of the founding of institutes of memory in Eastern Europe are presented and in the last one – the different approaches of dealing with the communist past and case studies are critically analysed.
